Venue

Dating from the XIV century, the historic Villa Quartara originally bore the name of the Genoese Spinola family. It was rebuilt in the XVI century with the addition of its still-standing tower. Over the years the Villa underwent numerous other transformations, and in many instances was an active witness to history: Pope Pius VII, the pontiff during the height Napoleon Bonaparte’s reign, was an overnight guest on one of his journeys during his 6-year exile imposed by the French ruler; during World War II, the Villa served as headquarters for the German occupying forces stationed in and around Genoa.
Located adjacent the expansive complex of the Badia Benedettina, a former convent of the Benedictine order (to which it was donated by the last owner’s heirs), the Villa underwent major renovation in 2003 and since then has provided the venue for major training actions of the Istituto Giannina Gaslini.
Housing three modular classrooms, each fully fitted with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment; a fully autonomous and networked secretariat; a faculty meeting room (capacity 20 persons), plus two smaller meeting rooms (capacity 6-10 persons each), the Villa is surrounded by a large park with centuries’-old maritime pines, providing a very conducive training environment.
